To stay well during the strange and unusual times that we find ourselves in, it’s important to take extra steps to care for our mental health. Here are some tips to help with this from Dr Amy Burton, Clinical Psychologist at Foresight Psychology:

  1. Try to maintain your routine – It’s really important to try to maintain your usual routine as much as possible. If you are working from home, pretend that you are heading into the office when you get up in the morning and do as many of the same things as you usually would. If you are not working at the moment, spend the same amount of time as you usually would working a shift doing something else productive (like a creative project, housework, ticking something off your to-do list).
  2. Stay connected with others – Don’t cancel your meetings or plans with friends, have them over the phone, Skype or FaceTime instead.
  3. Stay active – If you can’t go out for a walk or a run, do some exercise at home. There are lots of great exercise YouTube clips and apps (links below)
  4. Random acts of kindness – To challenge the negativity and stress weighing us all down at the moment, bring a little bit of light into someone’s else’s life. Ideas: making homemade gifts for neighbours or loved ones, sending messages of encouragement and support to others, support your favourite local businesses who are likely doing it tough, write a letter/email of thanks to someone important from your past.
  5. Seek professional help – It’s ok (and frankly expected) that you might not be doing so well at the moment. You don’t have to do this alone. Arrange to talk to your psychologist or start your journey today. One of the friendly and experienced psychologists at Foresight Psychology can help!
